Minor's Time line & Check-off List Learner's Permit 1. Driver's Education Classes. (In-room or on-line) a. You should be minimum 14 years of age. (NOTE: You cannot receive an instruction permit from DMV until age 15½.) 2. Receive a Certificate of Completion from the driver's education facility upon completing the required classes (certificate colors may vary). 3.  Permit Test at Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) (NOTE: All documents must reflect FIRST and LAST NAME spelling identical to birth certificate or DMV will reject the paperwork.) a. What you need to bring… Certificate of Completion Drivers Education. Application fee. Present your acceptable residency documents if you have never had a California driver license or California identification card. Certified birth certificate (Check California Handbook for other approved documents) Social Security card. DMV Application (DL 44) completed with parents'/guardian's signature. YOU PASSED!!! 4. Call Rush Hour Driving School (559) 297-6903. a. Enroll into a drivers training program and schedule your first driver's training session. (NOTE: to legally drive you must first validate your permit before you drive with your parents or guardian by first taking your first lesson with a driving instructor so the instructor may sign off on your permit). b. You need a minimum of 3 days of 2-hour sessions. 5. Receive a Certificate of Completion of Drivers Training from the Driver's Training Instructor upon completing the required six (6) hours (for teens under 18 years of age). Driver's License 6. MUST BRING A LICENSED DRIVER TO TRANSPORT YOU TO THE DMV a.  Valid permit, signed by parent/guardian.  Must have had in your possession for a minimum of 6 months from the date you passed the permit test (required for minors under 18 years of age) Minimum of 50 hours total, 10 hours at night with parent or guardian (no documentation needed). b. Proof of current insurance for car used in driving test c. Proof of current registration for car used in driving test d. Drivers Training Certificate of Completion (required for minors under 18 years of age)
